Toronto Island RunWe welcome you to join us for the 2012 Longboat Toronto Island Run to be held on September 9th. Registration opens February 1st

2012 marks the 32nd birthday for the "Island 10k". I really should round up some photos of what it looked like back then. I bet there was lots of colour. Of the fuchsia variety! Headbands, knee socks. Many of today’s runners were not even born. It is a privilege for me to be involved in an event that has enjoyed such a long run!!

Over the years as the running community has evolved, as new races have come and some others have gone, the Longboat Toronto Island Run has stayed the course. We have seen a lot and tried to offer a lot. And we strive to continue to do so. Last year we watched a world record and Canadian record be set in our 10k and 5k. We had the pleasure of cheering on first timers and veterans, to encourage the kids and to root for all of you whether you were at the front, the middle or the back of the pack. Many of you have shared your stories with me about why you run our race and I must admit I am often left in awe at your commitment, your goals, your values and as so much else.

The 32nd Longboat Toronto Island Run will have all the great things you have come to expect from this event. Our 10k and 5k k race, our kids 1k fun run and, of course, our delicious BBQ. And all of this will be delivered with beautiful Toronto Island as the backdrop.

The Longboat Toronto Island Run continues to support Pathways to Education as our primary charity. Please consider donating when you register. This wonderful organization is dedicated to keeping at risk youth in school by providing them with tutoring, mentoring, advocacy, and financial aid.

I look forward to having you join us on September 9th 2012. Come be part of the tradition!
